Féile Mhaigh Eo Programme

Féile Mhaigh Eo is a new festival spotlighting young musical talent, led by a Youth Council of young people aged 11 to 17. This event is part of the “We Are Music Generation 2024” initiative, co-sponsored by U2, The Ireland Funds, the Arts Council, and the Department of Education. The festival aims to highlight young talents in County Mayo, providing them opportunities to perform and share their music passion.

The festivities began with traditional Irish music on April 5 at Áras Inis Gluaire in Belmullet, initiating a series of events to inspire young musicians countywide. Key events include a busking competition in Westport on May 5, a youth bands showcase in Ballina Arts Centre on May 10, and multiple performances at the Linenhall Arts Centre on May 17.

A unique aspect of the festival is its collaboration with local alt-trad harpist Lisa Canny and the Music Generation Mayo Harp Ensembles, who are set to premiere new works. The festival will culminate with The Big Day on the Mall on May 25, featuring a day-long celebration of music, community spirit, and environmental projects. The event will host performances from various groups such as CCE Bofield, Admiral Brown, Rolling Waves, Mayo Youth Orchestra, Batafada Samba Band, Mayo Children’s Chorus, Foxford Brass and Reed Band and much more. Additional attractions include circus workshops, an open mic tent, a trad tent, food stalls, and activities for all ages.
