Michelle Hynes has over fifteen years experience in performance and music education all over Ireland. A BA (Hons) Music Performance graduate of Maynooth University, where she studied piano performance with Emer Nestor. Michelle teaches Piano, Clarinet, Violin and Class Room Music. She performs with Mayo Youth Orchestra and Castlebar Concert Band and is also deeply involved with the tuition stream of Mayo Youth Orchestra.  Michelle also recently received her post graduate diploma in Music Education from University Limerick under the tuition of Ms. Jean Downey.

Facilitator Deirdre Lynn-Rodgers, has performed and taught flute for over 20 years. She became inspired to work with pre-school children through her work with Music Generation Mayo and became a tutor on the highly successful pre-school music programme 'Sound Worlds'.


Saxophone / Music Theory / Music Technology



Mervyn Sayers graduated with a Higher Diploma in Arts and Music Education from Griffith College Dublin and also studied Jazz Performance formally at Newpark School of Music in Dublin, Ireland. His is passionate about playing and teaching the saxophone and his performing experience varies from rock and blues bands to regular performances with his jazz ensemble throughout the country. He is resident Tenor Saxophonist for “Supernova” a Dublin based Funk/RnB/Rock band.

Philip Cassidy is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and performer from Ballina, Co Mayo. He has extensive experience in both the recording studio and on stage. Philip has been performing since age 9, writing and recording music since the age of 14 and is a member of national organisations such as IMRO and RAAP.

Brian Kennedy


Brian Kennedy is a guitarist who has been teaching music in the Mayo area for the last two years. Born in Castlebar, Brian started to learn the flute at the age of seven and graduated to guitar in his early teens.  He has embraced blues, rock and country styles and taught and performed these with many of the area’s finest musicians.




Ludmila is a professional piano teacher and accompanist. She has been teaching piano for 20 years in Music Schools and privately.

Anthony McNamee


Anthony is a freelance drummer and music educator experienced in a wide range of musical styles and settings. He has worked with Dance Companies, Bands, Arts Festivals, Schools, Community Groups and those with disabilities.



Music Generation Mayo will make available an on-line music tuition booking and payment system via this website to parents/guardians of young people who which to enroll in classes, workshops etc.

We will hold open evenings to allow parent/guardians and young people to meet with tutors and try out various instruments - at these evenings you will have the opportunity (with assistance) to enter your details on our system which will facilitate easy future booking and also us to contact you should appropriate opportunities arise that you may be interested in.

All programming will be heavily publicised in local communities so keep an eye out for information and upcoming events!

Stephen Doherty


A full time professional musician and teacher from Foxford Co. Mayo, Stephen has accumulated numerous all-Ireland medals on Whistle, Flute and Accordian.



Music Generation Mayo has established music centres throughout Co.Mayo. These centres cater for young people aged 6-18 yrs who wish to learn and progress with their instrumental and vocal music education. For the 2019-20 academic terms, three tuition centres will be operational in Ballinrobe, Crossmolina and Louisburgh, with additional classes available at our new music centre, The Core Mayo, housed in Ballina Arts Centre.

Examples of instruments currently taught include Piano, Violin, Saxophone, Guitar, Drums and Vocal Note: classes taught in each centre may vary due to local demand.

·         Louisburgh: Mon, February 10th - 4.00-6.00pm in Sancta Maria College 

·         Crossmolina: Wed, February 12th- 4.30-6.30pm in St. Tiernan's College 

·         Ballinrobe: Thurs, February 13th  - 4.30-6.30pm in Ballinrobe Community School 


THE CORE MAYO is a youth music space for teenagers which we operate in Ballina Arts Centre. There are lessons available at The Core in guitar, drums, audio production, keyboard, and voice. Classes are in small groups of 3-5 students per group and costs approx. €8 per student for 30 minutes.

There are 3 Ensemble Sessions in each term, whereby students will be grouped with their peers to learn and perform a collective piece.


Fees are payable one term in advance, non-payment will result in restricted entry to classes, thank-you for your co-operation.
