‘Soundworlds’ is an early years music programme developed specifically for pre-school children, operational since 2013. It aims to introduce younger children to music, thus incorporating music in the everyday activities of their pre-school, with the aim of building self-confidence, self-esteem, creativity and a direct pathway to music education.
It has been developed as part of the Music Generation Mayo programme and is being delivered in partnership with Mayo County Childcare Committee, who aim to provide a range of quality, fun-filled, affordable childcare services suitable to the individual needs of all children and the aspirations of parents. The programme is co-funded by the above partners with a no cost to the childcare services involved.
Soundworlds is delivered as a 23-week academic year programme, whereby musicians collaborate with Early Childhood Care & Education staff to create a rich learning environment, where children are encouraged to explore sound and music through a range of play activities and group work.
SoundWorlds is delivered by a team of four experienced and diverse musicians from the Music Generation Mayo music tutor panel, allowing the children to see, hear and engage with professional musicians in their pre-school setting.
