  • What is Music Generation?
  • Music Generation is Ireland's National Music Education Programme. It provides matched funding and support to MEPs nationwide in order to allow them to establish music tuition services for young people, aged 0-18, in their locality.
  • What is Co.Mayo MEP?
  • An MEP is a Music Education Partnership. Co.Mayo MEP was formed in 2006 and is made up of the following partner organisations:
      • Mayo, Sligo & Leitrim ETB
      • Mayo County Council Arts Office
      • Local Community Development Committee
      • Mayo Community Engagement Network
      • The Mayo Education Centre
  • Co.Mayo MEP made an application to Music Generation in 2011 to access 3-year philanthropic seed funding from U2 and The Ireland Funds and was one of the first three counties, along with Sligo and Louth to receive this seed funding and support from Music Generation. The partnership initiative between Music Generation and Co.Mayo MEP is known as Music Generation Mayo. Since July 2014 the programme has transitioned under the Department of Education and Skills and is co-funded locally by MEP partner organisations. 
  • What does this mean for young people and music in Co.Mayo?
  • Music Generation Mayo implements a variety of music education services to improve access to music and music resources for young people in Co.Mayo. 
  • Does Music Generation Mayo provide funding?
  • No, Music Generation Mayo is a music tuition provision service and does not provide direct funding to individuals, organisations or groups to assist with music events or programming. Two exceptions include our Festivals Grant Scheme and Exceptional Music Student Bursary Scheme.
  • What tuition programmes will Music Generation Mayo roll out?
  • MGM run a variety of programmes, each specific to the age group of the young people involved. As well as tuition, resources such as a Music Library and an Instrument Bank will also be made available. 
  • Is the tuition provided free of charge?
  • MGM is required to match our national funding by 50%, therefore we generate funds from local partners and fees. We aim to implement a tuition service that is not cost-prohibitive and can sustain itself into the future,
  • I teach music - can I get involved?
  • Music Generation Mayo completed a recruitment drive for Music Tutors in 2011/13/14/16  - Tutors are placed on a panel and offered employment when a need or demand arises for their particular skills. It is possible that MGM may recruit again in the future so please contact us with your details or CV should you wish to be considered. Example of tutors are on current panel can be found here.
