About Co.Mayo Music Education Partnership

Co.Mayo MUSIC EDUCATION PARTNERSHIP, formed in 2006, is one of the first MEPs to receive part funding and support from Music Generation. Operational since 2011, this music education partnership initiative is known as Music Generation Mayo. There are now 13 established Music Generation programmes operational in Ireland, with five new areas to be announced in 2017.

The Co.Mayo MEP includes representatives from the following organisations;  Mayo County Council Arts Office, Local Community Development Committee, Mayo Community Engagement Network, The Mayo Education Centre, and lead partner Mayo, Sligo & Leitrim Education and Training Board.

The MEP is a non-profit, non-political partnership which exists to co-ordinate music services within the county, to ensure equity of access and to develop music education opportunities for young people aged 0-18. Co.Mayo MEP is matching funding through finances supplied by the partner organisations, invaluable in-kind supports, a modest fee scale and by continuing seek further funding.

The Co-ordinator for Music Generation Mayo is Laurie Barrett. She is responsible for the implementation of a music education strategy for the county and reports to Co.Mayo MEP. She is assisted in the day-to day running of the programme by Clerical Officer Tara Timlin. Resource Worker, Philip Cassidy is employed to run The Core Mayo, a new teenage youth music service, under the auspices of Music Generation Mayo and located in Ballina Arts Centre.

Music Generation Mayo programmes are delivered by a panel of music tutors, who are employed on a part-time basis by MSLETB.
